Tips to help with milder forms of Separation Anxiety:

  • Don’t make a big scene out of your arrivals and departures. Ignore your Fur Baby when coming home, and after a few minutes, pet them calmly. Remember, they feed off your energy.
  • Leave your recently worn clothes out for your Fur Baby to smell your scent.
  • Counter Conditioning – Start associating you being away from home with delicious foods or treats. Especially something that involves a KONG toy that takes 20-30 minutes to get all treats. Make sure that once you’re home, these high-value treats are taken away. They should only be associated with you being away from home.

If your Fur Baby has a severe form of separation anxiety, consider taking them with you to work, staying at a doggy day-care, or friends during the day while you are at work.
